Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe is still basking in the euphoria of her new marriage to Kazim Olasoji Adeoti, a Nollywood producer and marketer.
The Edo State indigene is not deterred by online trolls and criticism that have come her way since she announced her third marriage to Adeoti, who married her as a second wife
Aigbe’s relationship with Adeoti was a closely guarded secret before she revealed it on the eve of his last birthday on Sunday on posts on her Instagram page: @realmercyaigbe
“It’s my Boo’s birthday in a bit Cc @kazimadeoti thank you for being amazing,” she captioned the loved up photo.
“Finally I said Yes to ‘D’ Owner Thank you, God, of many chances.”
Before the unveiling on Sunday, Aigbe had made various posts on her Instagram page, especially last year referring to her secret lover as ‘boss’ and “di owner” and calls herself “Agbeke aya di owner”. Late last year she flaunted an engagement ring on Instagram.
On the 31st of December, 2021 Aigbe and Adeoti had a private Nikkai ceremony in Lagos, where she was re-christened Aminah. In attendance were few friends and family members. The couple also had a traditional Engagement ceremony at the same venue.
In announcing her new status Aigbe announced her new name to her followers on social media she posted a video of her outfit of the day flaunting her new wedding band.
Also, on January 1, 2022 at her house in Ogudu, Lagos where she hosted friends and family to a party, Adeoti was very active playing the role of a husband, ensuring that guests had a good time. Likewise, on January 3, at the New Year dance concert of King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall in Lekki, the newlyweds were together all through the event.
But hardly had Aigbe revealed Adeoti, a former licensed property broker in the US, who now owns Adekaz Film Production and Ibaka TV, an online movie streaming service, as her new husband that criticisms and commendations followed the post.
Most of the criticisms accused her of husband snatching. Adeoti is still married to Funsho, a popular fashion designer and owner of Asiwaju Couture, who is based in the US.
Also, Lanre Gentry, Aigbe’s ex-husband, posted a throwback photo of himself, Aigbe, Adeoti, and his wife on Instagram, apparently insinuating that Aigbe had all along been dating, Adeoti, whom he considered his friend while she was married to him.
He added: “At last I thank God the truth is out, this is just one out of many, to God be the glory. I don’t need anyone’s comment, please.”
Also, Funsho made a cryptic post that suggested that her marriage to Adeoti is not too well at the moment
“Losing someone who doesn’t respect or appreciate you again, is not a loss. Thank you all,” she wrote.
Aigbe’s four-year-old marriage to Gentry, a controversial hotelier, crashed in 2017 amidst allegations of domestic violence and adultery. The union produced a son, Juwon.
Aigbe’s relationship with Adeoti, which is almost a decade old started as a business one but later the two grew so close amidst dating rumours, as they started spending more time in each other’s company.
Adeoti became the producer of most of Aigbe’s movies and one of the first to congratulate and celebrate her achievements on Instagram.
However, despite the many criticisms of the relationship, some of Aigbe’s friends flooded to the social media to wish her congratulations while her fans rose to her defence with some saying Adeoti and Aigbe did nothing wrong as he is a Muslim, who is entitled to more than one wife.
Also, the 45-year-old actress seems to be enjoying the new attention as she is busy posting her wedding photos on social media.
Also, in a telephone interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the ‘Your View’ TVC talk show host, she tried to correct the impression that her new husband and ex were friends. The TV programme hosts had earlier condemned her for marrying her ex’s friend.
During the next day’s show, Afolabi-Brown said: “I spoke to her (Mercy) last night, she called me to correct an impression and that it is wrong for us to say, ‘how can she go and marry her ex-husband’s best friend.’ She said they were never friends.
“I just want to clear the impression, Adekaz isn’t Lanre Gentry’s friend,” the actress later said in a text message read on the show.
Going further, Afolabi-Brown revealed that during her telephone conversation, Aigbe revealed that she and Lanre only attended Adeoti’s birthday party together at his invitation.
“She told me that the man is a Muslim, he’s entitled to more than one wife, so yes, he has issues with the first wife, and he is now married to her as the second wife and as a second wife, doesn’t she deserve to be happy? ” Afolabi-Brown revealed.
