Nollywood’s leading actress and producer, lady, Genevieve Nnaji have made a reappearance on Instagram apparently to debunk the ongoing rumour that she is on admission to a US hospital for a psychiatry problem.
Genevieve posted a video of herself painting a picture that appears to show her mental state just as her colleagues continue to comment on the allegation that she has lost her mind to drug use.
The ‘mental’ was fueled by her silence on social media for a long period, including on her birthday and her deletion of all posts on her Instagram page and unfollowing everyone on her page.
Genevieve, according to the rumour making rounds, is allegedly suffering a mental condition as a result of drug abuse.
Controversial entertainment blog, GistloversBlog further took the rumour to town when it alleged that Genevieve is being institutionalized in Houston, the US.
The blog alleged that the actress was diagnosed with Psychosis, which was a result of extreme hard drug addiction. It also alleged that Genevieve had tattooed her body with a razor blade and that she wasn’t the one that has been handling her social media, but her aides, who are working at keeping her mental ailments confidential.
Sil Fenesse said to be a US-based Nurse was alleged to have confirmed the rumours of Genevieve battling a mental breakdown at an American hospital in Texas.
But one of her close friends and a blogger, Stella Dimoko-Korkus debunked that Genevieve was suffering from mental illness but stated that the ‘Lionheart’ actress is indeed indisposed.
”I have been in the know of the medical condition that she is going through but decided to let it go until she’s better,” she stated while asking everyone to pray for Nollywood great.
“Nollywood actress Genevieve needs love and prayers to overcome what she’s going through and not the breaking news to allege that she’s down because of drug overuse,” she asserted.
Stella was angry with the nurse who allegedly confirmed that Genevieve is being treated for mental illness.
Also, an actress, Georgina Onuoha in a lengthy post on her Instagram page lambasted the nurse, who allegedly confirmed that Genevieve is mentally ill to the public. Georgina advised Genevieve’s family to take legal action against the nurse and all who have been peddling false information about her. She also recounted the sweet moments she had with the actress in the early 2000s.
Her post: “We need to be wary of the kind of information we consume on social media. Most often they are lies from the pit of hell. I have known and worked with Genny for over twenty-something years even before the industry was called “Nollywood”. We enjoyed our 90s working so hard entertaining Africa. The last time I saw her, and we chatted was in 2015. A sweet and kind soul. I do not know anything regarding her private and personal life and don’t have anything to say to that effect and I don’t believe the bs been posted online. So don’t expect anything from this post other than me saying that what is being done to her online is criminal. It’s the worst kind of defamation.
If you are a healthcare practitioner working in any hospital in America and you are leaking any patient’s health information to the public, you are committing a crime. Any healthcare worker spreading such lies has broken state and federal laws in America. It is a HIPAA violation of the patient’s Privacy Act. It is punishable by fines, license revocation and time in prison. To dear Genny’s family, your child and sister have been violated with all the shenanigans making rounds on social media. Get you a lawyer to hold all accountable for this smear. It is morally reprehensible to subject anyone to such cruelty. Health information is confidential and protected by law.
If you are a blog that has posted these fallacies about this young woman, I hope you know you are on notice. It is sickening that our people are cold and cruel. As a health worker, you took an oath “to do no harm”. Whether this is true or not, I don’t know and I am not interested. I know that whosoever did this has committed a federal and state crime.
PS: Dear public figures in Nigeria this should serve as a wake-up call for you all. Before you enter any hospital or do anything with anyone nowadays, please sign a non-disclosure agreement. Our society has become so vile and cynical. People now enjoy the pain they put people through. But the need to see others hurt fuels some segments of the Nigerian society. It is unfortunate. Protect yourself and your family. You deserve a right to privacy”.
But the controversy still rages over the health status of the delectable actress.
