Singer, Charly Boy is at the receiving end of a heated backlash following his tweet about harassment of Igbos in Lagos over their political beliefs.
The singer, on Saturday, in a controversial tweet alleged that the Igbos are often frequently targeted by the Yorubas whenever an electioneering season draws closer. He stated that he had yet to hear of harassment of citizens of Yoruba extraction within the southeast.
“Almost 70 years, I have lived. I have never heard any story of my Yoruba brothers being harassed or terrorized in the eastern part of this country,” the tweet read.
“Why is the reverse the case in the west? What offense did their Igbo brothers commit to always be targeted any time election draws near?”
The tweet almost attracted severe criticisms from other users who questioned his claims about harassment.
Son of David – @DrOlusesan: “We were neighbours at 1 Ajidagan Street, 2nd Pedro, Gbagada. Charly Boy pulled down our fence with his to put a 20 ft container in the rented property for a studio. Apart from destroying the house, his Yoruba landlady died heartbroken, fighting to collect 7 yrs rent Charly boy owed.”
GEO @ Oladeepopoh- This is a shame! This is coming from the same guy that had a busstop named after him in Gbagada. Shame.
Khalid @Khalidmovic: Charly Boy Bus Stop,Oshodi-Apapa Expressway Gbagada,Lagos says Yoruba aren’t welcoming ! Peer pressure isn’t about age 😂
Olaocean@Oceanic09 added: “Gramps Charlie said the SW were unwelcoming to the Igbo people in Lagos. Whoever was old enough to know what he did in Gbagada in those days would know better. Who controls Aspanda, Oyingbo, Ladipo, Alaba, and some major markets in Lagos? How many markets does the SW control in SE?”
Seun Adedeji- @findurvoice_11: “You’re a disgrace to humanity. I sincerely hope all woke Yorubas are seeing this. Your Yoruba landlord & neighbors in Gbagada accommodated all your nuisances for years without harassing you. You’re still owing huge rent till today and it’s not an issue. Old loser& pathetic bigot.”
