Two famous Nollywood actresses have been confirmed dead on Monday. They are actress, comedian, producer, and television personality, Ada Ameh and veteran actress, and producer, Sola Onayinga.
Ameh’s death was confirmed by Emeka Rollas, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. Rollas said he had been briefed about her demise but was still gathering more insight into the circumstances behind her death.
Shaibu Husseini, a Film Critic, who announced Onayinga’s death on his Facebook page, said he was just informed of her demise.
“Auntie Sola, who is best known for living the role of Ireti aka Catering practical in the defunct television sitcom ‘Fuji House of Commotion delightfully’, Reportedly passed on this morning. Journey well, Ma! Journey Well!,” Hussein said.
There are unconfirmed reports that Ameh died in a hospital in Delta State on Sunday night as her latest post on her social media page on Sunday showed she was holidaying in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
In 2020, Ms Ameh lost her daughter, Aladi God’s gift, who was over 30 years old.
Since then, the actress had battled depression and mental illness sometimes calling out for help.
Last month, Ameh, in a post on social media, tearfully talked about an issue that was threatening her life and her mental health.
On the other hand, Onayiga best known for her role as Ireti (Catering Practical) in the iconic TV series ‘Fuji House of Commotion, was said to have been admitted to the ICU unit at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital two weeks ago.
An accomplished actress, she worked with the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, after her secondary education.
She later attended the National Institute of Internal Auditors for two years before dropping out to study theatre arts at the University of Ife (OAU).
She started as an amateur actress. Her first professional job was participating in The King Must Dance Naked by Fred Agbeyegbe.
Aside from Fuji House of Commotion, the talented actress acted in Checkmate and several Nollywood movies.
