The last six weeks have been traumatic for award-winning singer/ songwriter 2Baba as he faces battles from the homefront and outside his home Ade Ishola Iconic musician, Innocent Ujah Idibia, aka 2baba, has always for many years look forward to the month of September. This is his month. He celebrates his birthday on September 18, and the month has always being a joyous one for him. However, September of 2021 was one the musician/songwriter will want to forget in a hurry. His wife of nine years, Annie Macaulay set the troubles rolling for the award-winning artiste early in the month when she went on social media to openly accuse 2Baba of sleeping with one of his baby mamas, Pero Adeniyi while holidaying with the children in the United States. Pero had three children for the musician while Sumbo Ajaba-Adeoye and Annie bore him two children each.
In a now-deleted Instagram Story post, Annie claimed that the singer ‘‘slept under the same roof’’ with Pero and the children (Pero bore him) when they vacationed in Disneyland, in the US.
“What kind of man takes his kids to Disney and spends nights in the same apartment with his kids and their mother!
“How many times have you gone to see your kids with Pero and she stays with you and the kids under the same roof for nights?” she stated.
Annie claimed that her husband’s baby mamas use his children ‘as an excuse for all sorts of rubbish’ while urging him to do better.
She also accused 2Baba’s manager, Efe Omorogbe, and one Frankie of aiding in the charade describing their “move” as “unacceptable.”
In the post, she also claimed the artiste’s family has never welcomed her to their home.
“I’m a patient woman, I am not a fool, Innocent! Your family never loved me from the beginning, no matter how hard I tried. I was never worthy to them. I have made so many sacrifices for you and all your children. God knows I have tried,” she stated.
Pero, 43, who is based in the US had a bitter relationship with Annie for a long time until their public ‘reconciliation’ at the Crescendo Lounge in Ikeja, Lagos, in November 2018. 2Baba wept uncontrollably during the event.
The accusations by Annie turned messy on social media when Charles, one of 2baba’s younger brothers, fired back at Annie. Charles, derisively alluding to Annie’s drug addiction, alluded that she must have taken the wrong drugs from her ‘dealer’ to have come online to talk in that manner, of her husband.
He accused his sister-in-law and her mum of engaging in diabolical measures to entrap 2Baba.
And then, Annie fired back to make the situation messier. She said Charles and other Idibia’s family members on 2Baba are making the musician unhappy and discomfort.
But Annie got more than she bargained for when some entertainers took to the social media to berate her for making the marital issue a public affair while some advised her to settle her marital troubles in private with her husband. Those who scolded her included Junior Pope, who said making one’s marital issues public marks the beginning of the end of the marriage.
But that was bot the end as the crisis took a new when Annie, in a leaked audio voice note, released by an anonymous Instagram blogger, was heard crying accusing 2Baba of reportedly fleeing to America. She threatened to create more problems.
“I am going to scatter everything, nobody knows the wrath of an angry woman. I will ruin everything!! Hello Idibia Family, this is Annie. I was with my husband today, peaceful, nothing happened then my husband told me he has a shoot today, only for him to pack his things and his stup*d cousin, Frankie, helped him plan it.
“His family does not love me, they hate me, they’ve been giving me hell for 10 fuc**ing years.
“Today, my husband packed his things, he lied to me that he was going to shoot but my husband is on his way to America. It was planned by himself, Efe Omoregbe, and Frankie, all of this behind my back.
“I don’t deserve this, I don’t, I know this is not your business but I can’t call any member of his family. I can’t even call his manager, he will not even take my call because he thinks I’m the reason, he thinks I’m in his way, he thinks I’m his fucki*g way so he, Efe will never take my call.
“Innocent is on his way to America without telling me, without fuc**ing telling me, without telling me, he is going to see Pero in America and his other kids. Don’t move this car, park this car!! I am going right now on Instagram live, I’m done, I am done!”
Throughout the crisis and the various outbursts by Annie and his family members, 2Baba did not say anything in the public. But when he did few days later, it was to beg all to sheath the swords. He also urged fans to respect his family’s privacy. He demanded that “the madness” should stop.
“I admit that bringing our personal issues on social media was not cool but I will not sit back and watch everyone have a free for all battle here in the name of love or solidarity.
“None of us is perfect. I will like to urge our families and supporters to stop the madness and the public to please respect our privacy and our kids. Let us deal with our issues internally. I take God beg una.”
He said though it was bad that a private matter was brought to social media, his family should be allowed to resolve things internally. He later used the occasion of his 46th birthday to celebrate Annie and the matter appears to have died down. However, this week a blogger has called out Annie for allegedly sleeping with one of her acting colleagues’ husband and violently attacking 2Baba during disagreements. This has opened old heart wounds for the singer.
The blogger, known as TrapSelena, who claimed to have inside sources, in a report posted on her Instagram page, alleged that Annie was sleeping with actress, Sylvia Edem’s husband.
The blogger also claimed that Annie hit Tubaba’s head with a fire extinguisher at a hotel in Abuja on Monday after accusing him of paying too much attention to Pero. The fight was alleged to be so violent that soldiers have to be invited to break up the fighting couple.
While 2Baba’s problems were playing out on the domestic front. He also got attacked by a professional colleague. Singer, Brymo (Wale Ashimi), in the first week of October took to social media to call him out, accusing him of being behind an attack he was subjected to years ago by some boys. Brymo said 2Baba had earlier seemingly accused him of sleeping with Annie and also eyeing his ‘throne.’
In a lengthy thread-posts on Twitter handle ‘Wale Olooforo’, he wrote:
”In the very recent past, a man falsely accused me of sleeping with his wife.. and I’ve waited in angst, and the words were never taken back still, efforts were consistently made to prove I did it still.. and my soul has known no lasting peace ever since.”
Brymo then mentioned 2Baba. He said that when he met 2Baba at a press conference in 2015/16 and the meeting was somewhat awkward.
“Mr Innocent Idibia had, at an AFRIMA press conference in 2015/16 or thereabout, walked into the room, sat beside me and elbowed me in a supposed greeting, as much as 4-5 times, repeatedly, while looking away, saying “BrymO, BrymO…..” and we exchanged no other words that day!.
“Now, in 2012 I had the opportunity to tour the US with his company… a most appreciated opportunity, as he was by far my most respected act around… he was my first reference at everything, and boy! Did I look up to him!!!
“Fast forward to a few years ago, he approached for a feature.. specifically asking me to get on a track with him.. I was initially reluctant to consider it, because I still didn’t know why he did what he did at the press conference years before.. well, I got persuaded to meet!!
Brymon narrated how he met Annie a week prior with his partner present at the encounter when he said he would be ‘Africa’s finest soon’. He claimed when he met 2Baba later, the ‘African Queen’ crooner hinted that his future in the music industry will become nonexistent if he keeps “eyeing his throne”.
“I had, the week before or so shared the company of his wife, a female friend of theirs and my partner’s, and my partner herself.. and within minutes she, Mrs Idibia had asked what the future held for my career.. a question I considered a sleek attack. My answer was my future!!
“I proceeded to respond that I’ll be Africa’s finest act alive, and that I’ll reign for a decade .. and I knew I had shot back nicely!!..
“Next meet had Mr Idibia himself present, and he made a point of referencing another artiste, who in the past had claimed king at his expense. Letting me know what my fate might be if I kept eyeing “his Throne” .. weeks later I saw the other act bowing to him repeatedly on stage!”
Brymo further to alleged that TuBaba was behind the physical attack on him by some men.
“Weeks later I was lured into being hosted by a friend I had just met.. and after spending days getting high and philandering, I was asked if I would love to be a part of an organization, of which I responded “well, I might want to, except I do not subscribe to being battered”.
“Minutes later my host said he was walking down to another guest house, where some guy has messed up and must be punished.. told me to come but didn’t wait for me.. well, I was the guy it turned out .. when I arrived at the gate on the street, I was asked to show id
“I tried to, truly, forcefully open the gate, stating that I was a guest of the hotel and didn’t need id.. four boys bursted through the gates and launched an offense at me.. I fought back of course.. got a black eye too!!
“Later I found out from an undisclosed source that Mr Idibia was responsible for the attack .. yet I couldn’t decide if it was for supposedly bedding his Mrs or for claiming the spot of the greatest artiste alive!!
“I would later ask him directly of course.. and he denied flat.. then minutes later said, as the source also mentioned .. that some ppl said I was saying things about him, and finished by saying ppl just talk .. !!!.. and that the boys who attacked me called him “egbon”.
“On that meet with him, my partner had asked me a question I had lied about before, and I had confessed about the girl..and when asked about still seeing his baby mama, he said he wasn’t seeing her anymore.. and the wife stormed off not believing it..”na brymo fault” he said.”
Brymo concluded by stating that 2Baba has been interfering in his life for “months upon months ” “Up until a few weeks ago, I have found myself being forcefully shoved to take on his life’s image.. to make his mistakes and experience his pains..Mr Idibia has truly gone and tinkered with my life for months .. upon months
“It may be prudent of him, to desist from interactions with things and ppl that are close to me, in my domestic spaces, and in the field of survival.. I have carried these emotions for many months, and I won’t rush to this for publicity .. it is not funny .. this is madness!!.”
Brymo tweets have barely gone out on social when Now Muzik, 2Baba’s management outfit, reacted threatening a lawsuit against what it called libellous allegations. The outfit, on October 10, 2021, in a statement titled “Brymo: The Law Will Take Its Course”, claimed that “nothing can be farther from the truth than Brymo’s statement.”
Later, Brymo received a statement written to him by solicitors to 2Baba, referring to his claims as “baseless and false allegations” that have caused ‘unspeakable distress’ to the Idibias and 2Baba’s “estimation to be lowered in the estimation of his friends, business associates and wider members of the public, and further caused him the significant loss of business.”
The Afrobeat musician was given 48 hours to withdraw his statement and publish on his entire social media accounts an unreserved apology to 2Baba and Annie, or risk a Defamation Of Character suit for “no less than One Billion Naira in damages.”
But in response, Brymo advised that “they go on to court, as I insist on all my tweets asserted… they are not nonsense”. Making other statements, he wrote, “Bros, your reign is over, stay at home! Start a farm, na music we dey do for here. No be godfather we dey form for here.” With all these troubles playing in-house and outside, ‘gentleman’ Innocent Idibia, just can’t wait for them all to blow away so he can get divine peace and continue with his professional and private life in peace. But how soon this will be, judging by the nature of these travails remain to be seen.
