Women’s World Cup: It is England vs Spain for the Final

England’s Lionesses will be meeting the Spanish Female National Team on Sunday, August 20 at the Final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The English team beat host, Australia 3-1 in the second semi-finals on Wednesday, to advance to the final against Spain who had earlier beaten Sweden 2-1 in the first semi-finals match on Tuesday.

The Lionesses’ goals by Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo set up the team for a third World Cup final, with the team hoping for a better performance this year as England had previously failed at their two earlier final matches.

Australia’s lone goal was scored by its star player, Sam Kerr, who had recovered from injury and was starting for the first time in this tournament, with a superb equaliser.

“We achieved the final and it’s unbelievable. It feels like we won it but we didn’t win it (the World Cup), we just won this game,” said England coach Sarina Wiegman.

“We played a hard game, but again we found a way to win. We have been talking about ruthlessness and this team has ruthlessness, whether it is up front or in defence,” she added.
