FIFA, CAF, NFF, Delta State celebrate Okocha at 50

The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), the World football governing body,  the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Delta State Government and some top European clubs have felicitated and celebrated former Nigerian captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, as he celebrated his 50th birthday.

The clubs include Paris Saint Germaine (France), and Bolton Wanderers (England) which Okocha played for during his playing days.

FIFA, in a Twitter message, described Okocha as “one of football’s greatest magicians.”

“So good they named him twice, Happy 50th Birthday Jay-Jay Okocha!” FIFA wrote.

CAF stated on their Twitter handle: “Happy Birthday to Nigeria’s legend Jay-Jay Okocha!.”

The NFF said: “Happy birthday to former Super Eagles midfielder and captain, Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, who turns 50 today. Hearty cheers Jay Jay!”

PSG twitted: “Happy birthday to the magician, Jay-Jay Okocha!.”

Bolton Wanderers wished its former captain: “Happy birthday Jay Jay Okocha.”

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, in his congratulated message contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, said Jay-Jay Okocha was a quintessential footballer whose contributions to the development of Nigeria and world football were remarkable.

Oborevwori extolled Okocha attacking midfielder for his patriotism, humility, mentorship and support to budding talents, adding that he remained a good ambassador of Delta.

He stated that Okocha, as a footballer of great talent, brought his many years of experience to bear when he led the Delta Football Association, DFA from 2015 to 2019.

“As one of the most talented footballers Delta has produced, we are proud of your many achievements in the round leather game.

“As you turn 50, your family, associates and admirers, have cause to be grateful to Almighty God for having granted you a life of wonderful accomplishments.”

He prayed to God to bless Okocha’s path and make him a symbol for the motivation of youths in Delta and the country.
