Tinubu withdraws Shetty’s ministerial nomination, adds Keyamo to list

President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn the nomination of Dr Mariam Shetty, as a ministerial nominee from Kano State. He has replaced her with Dr Mariya Mairiga Mahmud from the same state.

Tinubu also nominated Festus Keyamo from Delta State as a ministerial nominee.

The new development was contained in correspondence from Tinubu and read by Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, during plenary on Friday.

President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday included Shetty’s name on the second batch of 19 ministerial nominees sent to the Senate. However, her nomination generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media, particularly, Twitter. Many described her as a mere Tik Toker.

Dr Mahmud, a medical doctor was a former classmate of Shetty in Junior Secondary School and a former Commissioner for Health, Kano State.

Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, served in the Buhari administration as the Minister of State in the Niger Delta Ministry and later as Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. He was also a Spokesperson of the APC/Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign during the last election.

Coincidentally, Shetty was at the National Assembly for her ministerial screening when the news of her replacement was broken to her.

With the addition of Keyamo to the list, the total number of ministerial nominees presented to the Senate by the president has risen to 48.
