Lover of ex-LASU undergraduate, prophet to die by hanging for her killing

A 23-year-old man, Owolabi Adeeko, the lover of Favour Daley-Oladele, a final year student of the Lagos State University (LASU), killed for ritual purposes in 2019 and Segun Phillips, a prophet, have been sentenced to death by an Osun State High Court, sitting in Ikire, for killing Daley-Oladele.

In her judgement, Justice Christiana Obadina ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and pronounced 42-year-old Philip and 23-year-old Owolabi guilty of conspiracy and murder. She sentenced them to death by hanging for murder and 14 years imprisonment for conspiracy.

She found Bola, the 46-year-old mother of Owolabi, guilty of consumption of human flesh and accordingly sentenced to two years imprisonment.

Adeeko and Daley-Oladele, who were lovers, met in LASU and in December 2019, Daley-Oladele was invited by Adeeko to Ikoyi, Osun State, which was a bait to lure her to Philip’s church in that town, where she was drugged and killed. After harvesting some of her organs, the two men buried her remains in a shallow grave within the church premises.

Her harvested organs were reportedly used to prepare a concoction for Bisi to eat so that her business fortune which was nose-diving at the time can improve.

The three defendants were first arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Apomu in January 2020 but were re-arraigned before High Court, Ikire in November 2021, for conspiracy and murder.

During the trial, the prosecution team told the court that under interrogation, Owolabi confessed to the police that he used his girlfriend to prepare a meal for a money ritual for his mother. It called the investigating police officer that worked on the case and eight other witnesses and tendered several exhibits before the court.

The defendants called no witnesses but testified of their different roles in the matter.
