An explosion has been reported on campus at the University of Calabar at its Special Education Building forcing the school authorities to close the school library.
Gabriel Egbe, the School Registrar, in a statement confirming the explosion, said Professor Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor, has ordered that the School Library, in the building, be shut down immediately.
It was also directed that students should keep off the facility.
“The decision to shut down the building is with immediate effect. The University librarian and chief security officer are to jointly ensure urgent and total evacuation of staff, students and properties out of the building as well as enforce the sealing of the structure,” the statement said.
There is no confirmation yet of the cause of the explosion or if there were casualties from the incident.
The university management recently declared a State of emergency in the same building.
