David de Gea weds as contract expires with Man United

David de Gea has gotten married to his long-time partner Edurne Garcia this weekend. The ceremony was preceded by a stylish pre-wedding celebration with family members and friends on the Spanish island of Menorca on Friday on a beach.
The guests were clad in white. Among them was Juan Mata, De Gea’s close friend and former Manchester United team-mate. De Gea was dressed in a darker ensemble while Garcia was in a cream dress.
The couple exchanged their vows in a discreet and intimate ceremony on Saturday.
Garcia, a Spanish singer, actress and TV presenter, first met De Gea in late 2010 during a recording of a Christmas carol to fundraise for cancer treatment. They began dating shortly afterwards and this continued when De Gea moved to England.
He was later joined by Garcia in Manchester in 2018. In 2021, the couple had a daughter named Yanay.
His wedding is coming at the weekend of the week in which he became a free agent after 12 years at Manchester United following the club’s reverse on a new contract offer earlier this year allowing his contract to elapse.
However, United has stated that it may still re-sign De Gea and is planning to hold face-to-face talks after the wedding. However, the reluctance of coach Erik ten Hag’s use De Gea as his No 1 goalkeeper is believed to be the reason for Manchester United had a re-think to signing a new contract with the Spanish international even though De Gea was willing to take a hefty pay cut on his £375,000-a-week wages.
“David De Gea’s contract is due to run out but discussions remain open with the long-serving keeper,” United said in a statement on Friday.
