Messi wins Champions League Goal of the Season award

Argentine star Lionel Messi has won the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League goal of the season award for his curling strike against Benfica on October 5 2022.

The goal was rated above other nominated goals by Erling Haaland, Alejandro Grimaldo and Vinicius Jr to win the award.

The game Benfica game ended 1-1 after Danilo Perreira’s own goal tied the match.

Messi, who scored four goals in seven Champions League appearances for Paris Saint-Germain last season, joined Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Inter Miami CF, this summer transfer window.
