Emefiele suspended from office as Central Bank Governor, arrested by DSS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.
There are also some rumours that the CBN Chief has been prevented from travelling out of the country and has been arrested by men of the Department of State Services on Friday evening.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, signed by Willie Bassey, its Director of Information, said the suspension was a sequel to the ongoing investigation of the Office of the CBN Governor and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
