Gunmen kill UNILAG undergraduate in a phone robbery attack

A male undergraduate of the University of Lagos has been shot dead on Saturday by armed robbers after trying to recover the phone of one of his colleagues that was snatched.
The 23-year-old.student, identified simply as Adekunle was said to have boarded a shuttle bus with the colleague, identified as Opeyemi, around 9 pm, from Yaba to UNILAG and in the course of the trip at Harvey Road/ Moore Road Junction, Opeyemi’s iPhone 7 Plus was snatched by a man, who was hanging at the back of the bus.
On discovering this, Adekunle was said to have jumped down from the bus to pursue the fleeing robber. However, another hoodlum suspected to be working with the phone snatcher came out of nowhere and shot Adekunle.
An eyewitness told a section of the media that Adekunle, who was shot in the head, died on the spot. His corpse was later evacuated and deposited at the morgue in the Mainland Hospital by the Police.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, told the media that the command had commenced an investigation to track down the suspects behind the attack.
“The deceased was a UNILAG student. The suspects are being trailed for possible arrest and the command has contacted the victim’s relatives. The case has been transferred to the SCID, Panti, for discreet investigation.”
