Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has announced that it has started a disciplinary procedure against Lionel Messi, its star player for travelling to Saudi Arabia on a business trip without its permission.
Messi had travelled to Saudi Arabia on business immediately after PSG’s Ligue 1 home match against Lorient on Sunday, which was lost by PSG. The loss prompted Christophe Galtier, the coach cancelled the usual rest day. But Messi was already airborne to Saudi Arabia and missed the training in Paris.
There are speculations in the media in France that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will be suspended by PSG for two weeks for the infraction. However, sources within PSG say the punishment might just be a few days’ suspension.
The Argentine World Cup-winning captain joined PSG in 2021 from Barcelona but has been struggling since to reproduce his suoerlative la liga form scoring just 31 goals in 69 appearances.
