Five Nigerian musicians have been nominated in two categories for the 64th Grammy Awards that holds on Monday, January 31, 2022.
They are Wizkid, Burnaboy, Tems, Made Kuti and Femi Kuti.
Wizkid and Femi Kuti have two nominations in Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance. Made Kuti is nominated for Best Global Music Album while Burnaboy. Tems ( with Wizkid) and Made Kuti are nominated under the Best Global Music Performance category.
For the Best Global Music Performance, artists nominated are Arooj Aftab, Angelique Kidjo, Burnaboy, Femi Kuti, Yo-Yo Ma and Wizkid ft Tems.
While for the Best Global Music Album, musicians nominated are ‘Made in Lagos’ (Wizkid); Femi Kuti and Made Kuti’s ‘Legacy +’; Angelique Kidjo’s ‘Mother Nature’ and Rocky Dawumi’s ‘Voice of Bunbon Volume’.
Tems, and Made are getting the Grammy nominations for the first time.
Burnaboy won his first solo Grammy this year in March during the 63rd Grammy Awards under the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category for his ‘Twice As Tall‘.
Wizkid along with other artistes, including Beyoncé won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video in the same award for the Lion King project with his collaboration -“Brown Skin Girl”.
